Ghost towns are once-prosperous towns home to an abundance of natural resources where communities made up of diverse peoples settled to found a new home. Now, these towns serve as a relic of the past where either few or no people remain: only structures and other relics left behind provide a glimpse into what these areas were like. However, the culture in many of these towns, especially in the Western United States, function as a home for those who have lived here for generations or wish to settle somewhere quiet away from the crowded lifestyle of cities and other towns. In ghost towns in Nevada and Arizona, residents who live in these places enjoy the  'freedom' of a slower lifestyle without the burden of pressure. Preserving these areas is also easier when there are residents who want to hold onto the historical elements these towns had at their peak while continuing to reserve a separate culture for the present day.
